Spotlight Interview with Tarra Agility Africa Co-Founder Marjorie Kivuva

What inspired your journey into this career?
When I think about it, it could be my poor math grade? Honestly, I had no plans to be a lawyer. But what I did have was a deep inclination for justice and a need to make an impact in everything I do. I feel that this was enough to guide my career path.
Reflecting on the “Give to Gain” theme, what is the most valuable thing you gained that you never expected when you first started your journey as a founder
The most valuable thing I gained that I never expected when I first started your journey as a founder was gaining a new perspective on leadership. Leadership is service to your team and clients. I also quickly learnt that to lead others, you must practice self-leadership. This means that you must be self – aware and continually build self-trust. The beauty is that all these skills are learnt. I learnt from observing and learning from my former bosses and mentors, therefore, I am conscious that there are women watching and learning from me and I hope they gain the courage to follow their dreams.
When you think about your legacy at TAA, what specific barrier do you hope will no longer exist for women because of your work?
The barrier I hope will no longer exist for women is the perception that women-led businesses, specifically in professional services, are anything less.
A firm founded by women is as valuable as any other business founded by men.
